The Nature of Private Investigations And How a P.I. Works
It is very important that our clients understand how a private investigation works. It is also helpful to know something about the nature of our industry, the regulations that govern our actions, our level of authority and what they can expect from the endeavor being conducted on their behalf.
First, we are not police officers. We have no more authority than a private citizen. The training, testing, background checks, fingerprinting and certification process we go through in order to obtain our licenses is meant to set us apart as individuals who are committed to unbiased professionalism. As such, we are bound by the rigid codes of conduct and ethics dictated by the State of Georgia.
We are not attorneys. Though we are very knowledgeable of the laws governing our profession, any advice we give concerning the direction or outcome of your case is merely a suggestion that should be approved by your legal representative.
We are not magicians. Ours is an industry revolving around detail gathered through available information, the understanding of this detail, and the working knowledge of how to follow the trails we uncover. This information is generated through diligence and knowing where to look.
We are not counselors. We pride ourselves on being compassionate and caring. We need to know what your concerns are and why you have suspicions of infidelity, but please understand that because our time is valuable, we must limit our conversations to topics that are relevant to our immediate investigation. We are happy to share our insight based on our professional experiences or lend a sympathetic ear but we are not psychologists or family counselors and we strongly recommend that our clients reach out to the professionals that can best serve their emotional needs such as therapists and clergy.
If surveillance is necessary we feel compelled to inform you of the “real life caveats”. Surveillance, especially moving surveillance, is a hit or miss endeavor. We can perform these observations under agreed upon time and location parameters, but cannot promise activity by the subject. Moving surveillance carries with it inherent obstacles such as the unpredictable nature of traffic. There is no guarantee that contact with the subject can be maintained as we must obey traffic laws. Privacy and private property laws will also dictate the conduct of surveillance.
We promise to do everything in our power to reach the goal of obtaining the information you need in a timely and economical manner while representing you in your case.
